Why 728?
I had an epiphany that I needed to talk to more people who are building great companies in South Africa. The 2010s has been a decade of growth in category leading consumer & small business focused companies that have changed industries forever. Stripe, Square, Uber, Airbnb, Instagram, Slack, Robinhood, Instacart, DoorDash, Lemonade etc.
These companies have inspired a lot of the start-up & scale-ups we see in South Africa today. Takealot, Yoco, Zulzi, OneCart, DigsConnect, SweepSouth, HouseMe, Naked, Pineapple etc. We can argue the cause & effect but we can’t argue that each of these companies has an exceptional group of founders. People who share common ideas of how South Africa should be & have taken the initiative to mould the country to their ideas.
So I decided to start a new series called 728 Founders.
The reason for the name or the number 728, is that the first 3 interviews were 7-to-8 questions long. Not by design but that’s all the questions I had to ask them. I did a little digging on the meaning of the number 728. It turns out it’s an angel number. This number somehow speaks to the journey I am on.
7 - an esoteric awakening & development. A journey of education & learning.
2 - Finding balance & harmony. Serving your soul’s mission & life.
8 - Relates to personal power & authority over your own abundance.
So I’m working harder on things I deem important. & telling the stories of exceptional founders & their companies is important. At least to me - Ububele.
